Junior High & High Schoolers, if you dare…check out all of the awesome Fall and Halloween-themed programs we have going on in September and October:

Stony Brook Village Scarecrow Builders
Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday, September 16, 17, & 19, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. 
Dedicated and artistically inclined Teen Volunteers are needed to create the Library’s Scarecrow for the Stony Brook Village Scarecrow Competition!  Teens will work together to build a literary-themed scarecrow, which will be displayed and voted on at Stony Brook Village for the month of October.  Teens will also assigned a week to “adopt” the scarecrow, checking on its condition while its up.  Please Note: Teens who register for this program must be available for all 3 building sessions, and one week in October to “adopt” the scarecrow care routine.  Teens will earn Community Service credit. Ghost Lights Now open to Grades 5 – 12!
Sunday, October 6, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Create a Ghost Light to decorate your house for Halloween! Each is customizable – you can make a classic ghost, a themed ghost, a super scary ghost or a cute ghost. The options are endless! Taught by Lisa Colon.  Register here now.

Bring Your Own Adult: Seashell Spider Web Now open to Grades 5 – 12!
Friday, October 18, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Bring your Adult with you to the library create a seashell spider web art with the guidance of award-winning, mixed media artist Anna Chan. Experience fun and easy shell art creation with her exclusive air-dry sand (without going to the beach!) No experience necessary. Open to 5th-12th graders and their adults!  Register here now. Halloween Treats for TotsPart of “Teen Takeover” Day
Sunday, October 20, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Create cute little treats (of the non-food variety) for toddlers, to be handed out during the Childrens Department’s Halloween Parade. Led by Teen Librarian Kiera. Teens will earn Community Service credit.  Register here now.


Spooky Teen Trivia (& Pizza!)Part of “Teen Takeover” Day

Are you scary good at trivia? Join us for this spooky-themed trivia program and put your knowledge to the test! Prizes will be given to the winners of each round, and pizza will be available for all! Register here now.

Sunday, October 20, 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Join your fellow teens for a classic scary movie viewing! We’ll have snacks while we watch. Summary: Life is very pleasant for a California family until a host of other-worldly forces invades their peaceful suburban home. Their house is turned into a supernatural sideshow, and if the family doesn’t clear out, they will be swept off into nightmarish chaos. Rated 1980’s PG.
