Wireless Network Security Statement
Please be aware that the wireless network is a shared, public network, and is not inherently secure. The Library cannot guarantee the privacy or integrity of your connected devices, data or communications while using the wireless network.
  • The wireless network name (SSID) is Library Wireless
  • Your device must have DHCP enabled (most devices have this enabled by default) so that your device will automatically “see” the Library Wireless network and allow our network to assign it an IP address.

How the Wireless Network Works

The Library Wireless network uses what’s known as a captive portal to log you in to the network. Once you’ve connected to the Library Wireless network, open your web browser.

The first thing you will see is an Internet Use Policy and Guidelines screen. Read the information on the screen and then scroll down to the bottom of the page, then click on the “Continue” button.

That’s all . Please be patient, after several seconds the server will automatically redirect you to the library’s home page. From there you can connect to whatever sites you would like.

Wireless Internet Use Policy

The Library recommends that all users take measures to secure their devices and Internet communications by equipping their computers with at least the following items:

  • functional, up-to-date antivirus software
  • the latest service packs and security patches for their computer’s operating system and software packages
  • personal firewall software

The Library does not provide these items and cannot guarantee or otherwise be responsible for their effectiveness. It is the responsibility of the user to secure their devices and Internet communications.

The Library advises its member against the publication of personal information on the Internet which may make them vulnerable to harassment from other Internet users. No member shall publish personal information about others on the Internet without their approval and parental approval if the individual is under 18 years of age.

The Library assumes no responsibility for the content of external sites on the Internet; library members view them at their own risk. While using the Library’s networks, users may not:

  • Make any attempt to damage or disrupt service on the Library’s computer networks.
  • Run network sniffer software, operate wireless access points or any utilize other means to intentionally intercept other users’ data.
  • Submit, publish, or display any defamatory, abusive, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, racially offensive or illegal material.
  • Make any attempt to cause degradation of system performance.
  • Use Library computer networks for any illegal or criminal purpose.
  • Violate copyright laws or software licensing agreements in their use of Library computer networks.
  • Engage in any activity which is deliberately and maliciously offensive, libelous, or slanderous.

Violations will result in loss of access. Unlawful activities will be dealt with in a serious and appropriate manner.

Supervising Children’s Use
Unlike the wired terminals in the Children’s Room, public wireless access throughout the building is NOT content filtered. As with other library materials, parents or legal guardians are responsible for their minor children’s use of the Internet. Parents should let their children know if there are materials which they do not want them to use and should supervise their child’s Internet sessions.

Please be advised that some material on the Internet may contain defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, offensive, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, racially offensive, or illegal material. Parents of minors who allow their children to have access to the Internet from within the Library should be aware of the existence of such material and monitor usage by their children as necessary. Restriction of a child’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or guardian; the Library does not have the right or responsibility to act “in loco parentis”.

Responsibility for any consequences of copyright infringement lies with the user; the Library expressly disclaims any liability or responsibility resulting from such use.
