Fiber Art Classes for Teens

As the weather gets colder, let’s get cozy and crafting! In these classes, you’ll learn knitting, embroidery, sewing, and needle felting. Please note the age range for each class. Some are for community service credit too!

Wednesdays, November 6, 13,  & 20

Knit for A Cause, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Open to 5th – 12th graders!
Learn basic knitting skills from Librarian Emily and teen volunteers, then put those skills to good use
making items to donate people in need! Earn 1 hour of community service credit per class and 7 hours of credit for knitting at home, between sessions, for a total 10 hours of credit. Must be able to attend all 3 classes in this
session. No experience necessary. All supplies provided.

Saturday, December 7

Embroidered Scarves for People in Need, 10:00 a.m. – 12 noon. Grades 7 – 12.
Learn simple embroidery stitches, then use your skills to enhance scarves that will be donated to people in need.
Taught by Kaara Henriquez. Teens earn 2 hours of community service credit upon completion of the program.

Bring Your Own Adult: Embroider Your Own Item, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Open to 6th – 12th graders and their adults!
Bring your own adult with you to the library to embroider an item of your choice! Participants will be taught various
embroidery stitches, led through the process step-by-step by fiber artist Kaara Henriquez. Each registration covers 1
youth and 1 adult. Click here to register starting 11/12.


Sunday, December 8

Bring Your Own Adult: Needle Felted Gnome, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Open to 6th – 12th graders and their adults!
Bring your own adult with you to the library to learn how to Needle Felt a Gnome! Participants will be taught how to
Needle Felt step-by-step by fiber artist Shamma Murphy. At the end of the session you will each have your own
felted gnome to bring home! Each registration covers 1 youth and 1 adult. Please only register for one session (this class is also offered on Dec. 13). Click here to register starting 11/12.

Sew Basic: Mittens, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Grades 7 – 12.
Learn the basics of sewing machine usage while creating a pair of mittens to donate to our Share the Warmth
Drive! Taught by Teen Dept Head Librarian Emily Ostrander.
Please note that sewing machine needles are sharp and
all teens are expected to be careful and adhere to all safety instructions given to avoid any accidents. Teens will earn
1 hour of community service credit upon completion of the program. Please only register for one session.
